I love the line “we are all just making this up as we go.” It has taken me years to recognize this. It takes a lot of the fear away from taking action when you realize the “experts” don’t REALLY know either. They only know what has worked for them. There is no guarantee what worked for them will work for you. Especially if their core DNA is different from yours.
In an interview Steve Jobs makes a great comment that fits well with what you said here: ” Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is, everything around you that call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that you will never be the same again.”
Seth Godin talks about this a lot too, about choosing yourself.
